Introduction
An explanation about demo1 and demo1_vs9 nick names :
both are demo1,
demo1 used two machines to drive the build and perform the tests
demo1 is used when he chats on the mozdev #seamonkey channel using a semamonkey "in house" vc ++ 2005 build
and demo1_vs9 when he chats on the mozdev #seamonkey channel using a semamonkey "in house" vc ++ 2008 build, hence th vs9 suffix

Here follows the IRC chat retranscription (HTML specialists will notice the formatting and html layout, this is raw ChatZilla output).

<ajschult> werwolf: "an html editor"
<demo1> lol congrats to mozilla build gurus seamonkey built using VC++ 2008 success here
<KaiRo> nice

<Hendikins> On Monday I'll contact Acer and see if I can get a Windows refund :)
<werwolf> nice
<werwolf> you can not probably
-->| WindShadow (chatzilla@moz-C037F22A.alb.east.verizon.net) has joined #SeaMonkey
<Hendikins> werwolf: I don't know. If I don't accept the license terms and immediately remove the software (already done, my choice of Linux is installing), I may well be entitled to a refund.
<Hendikins> Since I removed the software before even /viewing/ the license, one can safely assume I don't accept it.
<Callek> Hendikins: just look up the licence online, (if its available somewhere public) so you can say, "I didn't agree to it" a bit more matter-of-factly
<Callek> lol
<Hendikins> Callek: They don't have to know that I nuked it before reading the license. :P
<Callek> Hendikins: "what prompted you to not agree with the license"
<Callek> "I hate M$ stuff"
<Callek> probably won't cut it
<Hendikins> No, but say, having objections to it being DRM'd up the wazoo may well do so.
<WindShadow> If you want the "Windows rebate" Google for info. I think slashdot had an article on it early this year

<CTho> it's an "&", but the way they linkified it im' not sure it works well
<CTho> someone fix that properly
<KaiRo> CTho: "and" is also OK I guess
<demo1> where can I find precise information on building seamonkey installer on win32 platform (the os bundled with internet explorer)
<KaiRo> demo1: what SeaMonkey version?
<demo1> this one
<demo1> I mean
<KaiRo> trunk, i.e. cvs HEAD?
<demo1> 2.0a1 pre releaease
<demo1> y
<KaiRo> ok, just cd into your objdir and type "make installer"
<demo1> I Ill retry then
<KaiRo> you need NSIS and 7zip installed for that though
<demo1> oih I typed make install afair
<Callek> KaiRo: top of your head, is nsis and 7zip in MozillaBuild?
<demo1> no it is in ;owillq6build
<demo1> qs reco;;ended
<demo1> oops
<demo1> my bad localization
-->| rpedro__ (rpedro@moz-37A2CE2.net.novis.pt) has joined #SeaMonkey
<demo1> it is in mozilla-build
<demo1> as recommended
|<-- rpedro_ has left moznet (Ping timeout)
<demo1> no rule for target installer
<demo1> in mozilla top src dir
<KaiRo> demo1: not src dir but obj dir
<demo1> oh
<demo1> have to w8 it is genrating key pairs
<Callek> KaiRo: hmm, I wonder if make -f client.mk installer does/should work too
<Callek> ;-)
<--| werwolf has left #SeaMonkey
<demo1> does the build process sign binaries ?
<demo1> it doesn't seem so but ...
-->| liona29 (liona29@moz-D5BD62D6.w90-25.abo.wanadoo.fr) has joined #SeaMonkey
<demo1> can u install seamonkey with no administrative rights ?
<demo1> I will lower privileges here if no answser :)
|<-- liona29 has left moznet (Quit: )
<demo1> and does the installer includes msvc runtime ?
<demo1> i will install on a "special" machine if no answer :) where WinSxS is prepared to pretend they are not installed
<demo1> upx: c:/mozilla/other-licenses/7zstub/seamonkey/7zSD.sfx: EOFException: premature end of file
<Callek> demo1: the installer does not statically link in the msvc runtimes
<Callek> (I'm not even sure if it is legal to redistribute them)
<demo1> ok
<demo1> I saw the C++ flag
<thebot> c++ is e-- ah, nevermind.
<demo1> but are they included with installer ?
<Callek> demo1: I havent actually investigated my claim here (since Mozilla Suite 1.5 I think), but I'm "fairly certain" of my claim
<Callek> demo1: "I don't believe so"
|<-- davida_ has left moznet (Quit: davida_)
<demo1> the runtime flag is MDwhen not enbling mozilla static link flag right ?
<Callek> note my, ... "not sure if it is legal"
<demo1> oh
<demo1> I agree with u not being sure
<Callek> I'm not the guy who works on any of that stuff (and in-fact I don't recall ever building the installer), so most of my statements are from memory
<demo1> the makeinstall modified c:/mozilla/other-licenses/7zstub/seamonkey/7zSD.sfx (compared to cvs)
<demo1> I cant debug that :)
<demo1_vs9> firefox vs9 built
<demo1_vs9> :) :) :)
<demo1_vs9> now trying to build seamonkey x64 ... :)
<demo1> oh its ok
<demo1> restored the file from cvs
<demo1> cant tell yet why it was not the original now ok
<Hendikins> I've never tried building a 64bit SeaMonkey for win64. Never seen the point.
<Hendikins> At least on Linux you've got nspluginwrapper
<demo1> nspluginwrapper ?
<Callek> Hendikins: the point is windoze rulz, and everything not windoze is goingz to perish...
<demo1> lol
<Callek> Hendikins: I say to Mr Torval (sp?) "all your base are belong to us"
<thebot> Suggestions for 'Torval': travel, travail, trover, trouville, true, seal, troweler...
<Callek> [/bad jokey-rant]
<demo1> I was assuming if internet explorer perishes windowsis pointless :)
<Callek> demo1: it still has WMP, and Office... o wait, those too are riddled with security flaws.
<Callek> nevremind
<Hendikins> demo1: nspluginwrapper lets you use 32 bit plugins with your 64 bit browser.
<KaiRo> but didn't you hear the big news about interweb exploder?
<demo1> OpenOffice ?
<Callek> KaiRo: that they are actually calling it IE8?
<KaiRo> the announced (!) officially (!) that the next versaion of their browser will be IE8!
<demo1> is itin beta ?
<demo1> :)
<Callek> KaiRo: I was really hoping for (what their marketing team said was a shoe-in) "IE Desktop Online Web Browser Live Professional Ultimate Edition for the Internet "
<KaiRo> demo1: they didn't tell anything about its development, just the BIG news that it's being called IE8
<Callek> demo1: and sadly, that last line is a real quote
<Hendikins> KaiRo: *wow!*
<demo1> I was asking if a whiteboard addon exists with seamonkey
<demo1> I mean a collaborative one
<KaiRo> Callek: yes, that would have really been great, esp. on the desktop
<Callek> [source]http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2007/12/05/internet-explorer-8.aspx[/source]
<KaiRo> Hendikins: yes, that's what other people thought as well ;-)
<Hendikins> KaiRo: I'm sure - possibly even with that much sarcasm
<Callek> Hendikins: I frankly don't care if they call it "IE-Crapola" if its a good product, great... if it sucks, like (most) other IE's... then it might as well be called IE-Crapola
<KaiRo> Hendikins: exactly
* Hendikins finishes setting up his new laptop
<Callek> I'd rather they had answered (some) of those questions, they even acknowledge on that particular post
<Hendikins> I need to throw my latest autofox nightly, my profile, and some data on it :)
<KaiRo> mailnews marked the Apple Developer Connection newsletter as junk - I'm not sure if that even counts as a false positive *g*
<demo1> mingw didn't notice a 64 bit os ...
<demo1> but cl 64 bits amo should be invoked ...
<demo1> oh no target architecture
<demo1> _AMD64_ should be defined and is not
<demo1> testing installer with no vc++ runtime installed (pretending they are not)
<demo1> ok can't rename winsxs right now
<demo1> :)
|<-- demo1 has left moznet (Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.79 [SeaMonkey 2.0a1pre/2007121319])
<demo1_vs9> lol
<demo1_vs9> must find wich application still use msvcr80.dll
<demo1_vs9> damn still didn't caught it launching pe
|<-- KaiRo has left moznet (Input/output error)
<demo1_vs9> anyway could rename the last msvc80.dll
<demo1_vs9> if vc++ 2005 express dont start on this machine, considering it is ok to test seamonkey installer :)
<demo1_vs9> VC++ express doesn't launch : testing the installer with no vc ++ runtime
<demo1_vs9> ooch seamonkey doesn't launch
<demo1_vs9> just like vc ++ express
<demo1_vs9> checking the reference installing gimpvs from http://gimp-vs.sf.net if it launch , others should launch too ...
<demo1_vs9> it is a 21 mb installer bbut comes with all dependencies : checking no previous installation is present for sanity
<demo1_vs9> it is gimp coming comes with a GTK+ distribution
<demo1_vs9> lol downloaded vs9 distribution :à)
<demo1_vs9> it doesn't launch either
<demo1_vs9> oh got it
<demo1_vs9> I only renamed the msvcr80.dll but not the manifest files before checking my bad
<demo1_vs9> restarting test
<demo1_vs9> so
<demo1_vs9> the os is messed up by this : not a situation found on a "bare machine"
-->| abwillis (abwillis@moz-AB2CBE3D.hlrn.qwest.net) has joined #SeaMonkey
<demo1_vs9> checking if gimpvs launches
<demo1_vs9> yeah gimpvs now it runs as if running on a bare machine
<demo1_vs9> launching vc++ 2005
<demo1_vs9> vc++ express 2005 doesn't launch ok :)
<demo1_vs9> but seamonkey doesn't launch :(
<demo1_vs9> uninstalling seamonkey to ensure the installer wasn'tt messed up by the "not bare machine"
<demo1_vs9> official firefox 2.0 launches is it a static link build ?
<demo1_vs9> if so the legal question goes there too
<demo1_vs9> reinstalling seamonkey
<demo1_vs9> it didn't launch silently from the installer : normal but :(
<demo1_vs9> no seamonkey doesn't like while the reference gimpvs does : the guys have been making gimpvs with this as a requirement : n oadmnistrative priviliege required
-->| Chascon (chatzilla@moz-6932DC9D.cm.vtr.net) has joined #SeaMonkey
<demo1_vs9> so firefox official must be statically linked against runtuime : checking this
<demo1_vs9> onky a dependency against msvcrt.dll
<demo1_vs9> can I find the build settings for official firefox 2.0.11 ?
<demo1_vs9> was it built using vc6 ?

<demo1_vs9> Im about to join the gimpvs team and want to be sure of what I will tell them or they will laugh at me :)
<demo1_vs9> meanwhile I ll give x64 build a try again :)
<demo1_vs9> I wont fill a bug report yet :)
<demo1_vs9> compiling a dummy console app I'm not sure if it will link agaisnt msvcrt.dll calling any crt function : printf
<demo1_vs9> k compiled a console app no dependency on msvcrt (calling printf runtime cl flag /MTd)
<demo1_vs9> restauring the test machine initial state

<demo1> so firefox 2.0.11 seems to be built using vc6
